The Neighborhood

The Neighborhood The east neighborhood surrounding Syracuse University is a special place because of the diversity of people it attracts.

Young families, the elderly, international students and students from across the United States call this "home" for as long as their entire lives, or maybe just one academic year. Among the many things these neighbors share is the responsibility for keeping their neighborhood clean, safe and peaceful.

Everyone living in the neighborhood is subject to the laws and ordinances of the City of Syracuse. The City provides information in a reference guide called, "What Every Resident Should Know." This guide will help to understand some of the issues that routinely cause concern in the neighborhoods, and specify some of the ordinances that are enforced twelve months a year.

Please note that landlords are responsible for providing tenants with certain items and/or services, which, if not done, are in violation of city ordinances as well. For further information, please contact the Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS) at 315-443-5489 or review a Model Lease Agreement.
